아사다 지로의 단편선 <장미 도둑>을 읽고 있다. 어떤 인생의 기구한 사연을 애절하게(수국꽃 정사), 특이한 삶의 이야기를 재미있게(나락, 죽음 비용, 가인) 표현한다. 단편으로는 아직 작가의 면모를 온전히 알 수 없겠지만, 큰 기대가 가지는 않는다. 사라져 가는 것들에 대한 애수(수국꽃 정사)와 가족의 분열(하나 마츠리, 장미 도둑)을, 몰락한 부자집 출신 작가답게 애잔하게 이야기한다. 해체하는 가족 또한 이 작가에게는 사라져 가는 우수의 대상이다. 사라져 가는 것들을 망연히 지켜보는 것이 이 작가가 가진 근본적 문제의식일지도 모른다. 작가가 어떤 문제의식을 가지고 소설을 쓰는 것은 아니겠고, 작품에서 풍기는 분위기가 그렇다는 말이다.
미국에서 90년대를 주도한 그런지락 밴드 출신들이 결성한 슈퍼 밴드 오디오슬레이브는 2002년~2007년까지 활동하면서 3장의 앨범을 냈는데, 곡은 네 명의 구성원이 함께 만들고 가사는 보컬인 크리스 코넬이 썼다. 나머지 세 명은 RATM 밴드 출신으로 정치성 강한 랩메탈의 가사를 잭 드 라 로차라는 보컬이 썼다고 한다. 랩은 그야말로 짧은 서사라고 할 수 있겠고 크리스 코넬의 가사는 시에 가깝다. 강력한 사운드와 터질 듯한 육성을 타고 나오는 노래 가사는 문학의 경계를 흔든다.
